PI7EHG  DUTCH 10GHz BEACON

This well known beacon has recently been refurbished with a more stable local oscillator. Hans's email below describes it all...

The 3 cm beacon from Schiphol is on air again at the changed frequency.
Its frequency drifted down to 10368.130 so I replaced the crystal for a
new one. The frequency now is at 10368.200 MHz , measured by PA0EZ at
10368.202 MHz. Possibly it will drift a bit as well but I hope it will
be more stable than before.

NEW UK 10GHz COMING SOON...

A new 3cm beacon, GB3XGH, will soon be installed at a site near Rochdale, Lancashire, England. Put together by David, G6GXK, with assistance from John, G4XHS, it will use the callsign of the defunct Cheshire beacon, GB3XGH. Permission to relocate GB3XGH is this way is expected to be granted swiftly.

Details of specific location, power output, antenna and frequency will be posted here as soon as they are finalised and approved.

John and David have other beacons planned for the future...possibly for 24 and maybe 47GHz!

GB3SC# BEACONS NOW OFF THE AIR!

OCTOBER 1999

IS THIS THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME?

From John, G0API, comes the very disturbing and sad news that the GB3SC#  series of microwave beacons have ceased operations due to the reasions described. This is extremely sad news and makes one ask if this is going to be the pattern around the UK from now on? Anyone who has a beacon installed should seriously consider alternative locations if the same thing happens to them.

Meanwhile, John would appreciate any help from anyone to get these valuable microwave beacons back on the air.

Bad news to report Peter.

As of 1200Hrs today all beacons at IO90AP11 ceased operation and will be off air until a new (as yet unknown) site is located.Andy will be advising RSGB beacon coordinator. This was dropped on us during last 7 days and the site owner has demanded QRT without appeal or offer of financial persuasion. Cell phone/PMR use of  site is thought to be imminent.

Any reasonable site within the general area of this part of the UK would be considered, provided rental was minimal. So far all construction /maintainance, etc,  has been funded by individual constructors or South Coast 2m Repeater Group.Such funds that remain also need to cover 144/432MHz Repeaters , which they have on a donation basis for last 20 Years, but there is no big  pot of gold to draw on - certainly not enough to cover commercial  equivalent sites.

Any offers of help could be channelled via me , Andy G4JNT or Chris G8BKE.

THREE NEW UK SOUTH COAST BEACONS

NOW OPERATIONAL - JUNE 1999

(but see above for bad news!)

From: C H Towns [CTowns@compuserve.com] Sent: 01 June 1999

The three south coast beacons GB3SCS, SCF and SCK were commissioned over the last couple of days by G4GHP, G0API, and myself.

GB3SCS is on 2320.905MHZ and runs 50mW

GB3SCF is on 3400.905MHZ and  also runs 50mW

GB3SCK  in on 24192.905MHz and runs 200mW

The latter is locked to a 5MHz standard and as such should provide a useful frequency reference on the band.

All beacons are on omni-antennas and are located at........ IO90AP11.  All are co-sited with the existing 10GHz beacon GB3SCX.
